![]() ![]() It's a discussion about the perceived pros and cons from each side. It's not a "You should like this" discussion, as art is completely subjective. Namely that, instead of asking what it was I didn't like about the film and debating the merits or demerits of it, you instead attempted to attack me on a personal level. Your comments are indicative of the issues plaguing society today. Of course this minor twist is nothing new nor completely original but it would've been better at understanding Lara, her father, Trinity and such. So it allows for a believable minor twist, creates drive and motive for Lara to be even more motivated to go against Trinity and also reflects how big and ruthless Trinity is, on top of adding heart, emotion and growing attached to a misunderstood man that turned out to be much better than an obsessive and obsessed ''coward'' Troubled, seemingly unstable but also clearly distressed, huge toll on himself, Lara, the family affairs, the business affairs and allīasically they build it up as if he was justified into taking his own life, and that's how the audience (and Lara) sees it (especially as she was just 10 years old) - the setting looks like a suicide and there's even a suicide note with his own handwriting and allīut later in the movie or movies we find out it was never a suicide, everything was carefully planned and executed, including the suicide note and all, and Lara eventually understands what he was doing was for the greater good and how (through secret letters) he wished he spent more time with Lara instead and all This is how they could've built it up in movies Įverything we as an audience see and Lara as a character sees support the idea that it was genuine suicide. That's an excellent point and definitely could've been amazingly adapted in the movie(s) The sequence in the game where you play as 10 year old Lara and discover her father shot was powerful. I didn't hate it and enjoyed some elements, but man, that's what they came up with? No attachment to the character, finding him alive is an eye-rolling idea, and when he did indeed die you didn't feel anything because you didn't care enough or at all.Īll in all, I understand and support the criticism for the movie. But everything happened all at once in the very first scenes (boxing, race, smart, all within what, 5 minutes?) so it didn't feel organic.īut the whole ''My father is dead'' / ''I killed your father'' and then him popping out of nowhere was terrible writing.Įven worse when we as an audience are only told that he's dead or was killed so we immediately doubt that as nothing is shown, only told - and rule #1 in filmmaking is Show, don't tell - (which they ironically did when they introduced Lara, albeit all within the first 5 minutes, which is bad pacing)Ī simple flashback to some confrontation where it looks like he was shot or something would've helped a little but it was still a super dumb decision. Honestly the delivery driver and her ''modern back story'' were fine and somewhat grounded and fitting for a young Lara Croft that has no purpose yet - it kinda helped in showcasing some of her talents and expertise - quick thinking, witty, smart, and physically fit.
